Amsterdam
Amazingly beautiful, and full of canal's, welcome to Amsterdam. a very cultured and diverse society, witch is made famous for its liberal attitudes towards cannabis and prostitution!! a fantastic city witch offers many things to do day or night.. The ideal stag do destination or great for a boys weekend away!!
Accommodation
Most of the accommodation in the dam is central, and always busy, so make sure to book in advance. The hotels are among the most expensive in Europe so choose carefully!! there are very few bed and breakfasts in Amsterdam, but if you do manage to find ultra cheap accommodation, don't be afraid to ask to see the room first, and refuse it if you don't like it. Try a short term rent on a house boat or apartment this can work out much cheaper for groups or families.
Cash
The worst thing to ever happen to Amsterdam "THE EURO" now making it a very expensive place to visit,at about £4 per pint this is no longer a drinkers place!! the Netherlands is still a cash society, with many things pay ed for with cash.. But you will find that most of the hotels and bigger shops now accept credit cards. And in any case you are never very far away from a ATM cash machine.
Temperature
In Amsterdam the temperature is never hot. At best it's warm. Even in august you'll need a jacket and a sweater for night time.but who cares you'll be that high you'll never notice the weather!!!
Food
This may not be europe's culinary capital, but for such a small city the place is full of places to eat and drink, and there no real suprizes on the menu just plain european food. chips, sandwiches that sort of thing.. also a growing number of fast food places for that quick meal in between lagers or spliff's
Amsterdam by day!!
Amsterdam by day is an amazing place to be, with so much to do, depending on what ever floats your boat!! this city is full of art and where ever you go you can not escape it, for example there are well over 200 private commercial art galleries, and in most bars you will find displays from local photographers. And if that wasn't enough there are museums every where as well!!
the shops and markets are great with loads of interesting buys, and always a pleasure to walk around but be aware that most of the small and medium sized shops will not accept payment by credit cards.
Or just sit outside a cafe with a big spliff on!! and watch the world go by. maybe the best way to spend a summers afternoon. "NO" THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO SPEND THE AFTERNOON!!!!!!!
Amsterdam by night !
"as a city Amsterdam has a lot of night crime from pick pockets to muggers so just be aware.."
so if you have been out all-day in Amsterdam by this time you are now drunk or stoned this is where the fun begins!!!!
Amsterdam comes alive at night with street entertainment and shows, as the central bars start to fill up at around 9pm with plenty to choose from. after a few beers most people find there way into the red light district this is a real eye opener!! with large groups of tourists men and woman just walking up
clubbing amsterdam is not the style-conscious business it is in many other capitals. most clubs have a reasonable entry fee with a non-existent dress code. as for smoking a joint in a club just ask at the bar first, but in general it's ok to smoke the night away!!
mainstream clubs
club 114 - one of the longest-established clubs in amsterdam playing R&B ,hip hop and trance.
club de ville- an old, vast industrial hall with a few wood tables a bar and plenty of people out for a good time
escape- amsterdam's hottest saturday nights "chemistry" often featuring holland's finest dj's with room for 2000 people!
the ministry- nice club with fast garage and ever changing line up plays host to some quality dj 's..
i could go on!! there are loads of clubs, and at the end of the day its up to personal choice. so try to check the flyers out which litter the pubs, this will give you a better idea of what's happening on certain days...
